Vintage Woven Basket Dining Chair by Gian Franco Legler for Pierantonio Bonaccina

For your consideration is a classic wicker dining chair designed by Swiss designer Gian Franco Legler and produced by Bonaccina (Italy).
Already in 1951, as part of a building project in Italy, he developed a chair for a restaurant, “The Basket”.

This lightweight stacking chair with a steel frame and ergonomic seat and backrest in hand-woven rattan was ideal for use both in and outdoors. The Basket was a hit, not only in Italy but in Switzerland, Germany and was a great success in the USA.

The chair is not only comfortable, but also allows the body to breathe, even in the hottest of summers. It can also be stacked easily one on top of the other. Gian Franco Legler received the Good Design Award for the ‘Basket’ from the Museum of Modern Art (MOMA) in New York in 1953.

Condition: in good vintage shape for its age. Structurally the chair is in very good condition, no cracks, three very small holes in the woven seating visible in images 6 and 9. The metal frames are in fairly good shape, no bent parts, some surface scratches, marks and light signs of oxidation from previous use.

Prospecting customers can always contact us for additional images of the chair. Please send us a message and we will forward a wetransfer download link.
