It was the Presidential Election year just prior to the start of the Civil War, and the North and South were at odds, multiple candidates were seeking the Presidency, and political parties were emerging with various approaches to the slavery problem. The Republication Executive Congressional Committee was distributing many speeches, papers and documents to the voting public in their efforts to succeed in the election of Abraham Lincoln as President. This paper, Federalism Unmasked: or The Rights of the States, the Congress, the Executive, and the People, Vindicated Against the Encroachments of the Judiciary, Prompted by the Modern Apostate Democracy. Being a Compilation from the Writings and Speeches of the Leaders of the Old Jeffersonian Republican Party, by Daniel R. Goodloe was one so distributed.

The paper, which measures approximately 6 x 9 inches, contains 16 pages of 2-column text. On the first page is a listing of the authorities quoted in the body of the paper, starting with Thomas Jefferson. On the last page is a listing of all the speeches and documents available for distribution upon demand. The paper is in good condition, with some dirty surfaces on the first page and all the remaining page very lightly tanned with text that is clear and easily read.
