ARTIST'S STATEMENT

The Aboriginal people of Australia is the oldest civilization still existing today. Other civilizations rise and fall, the aboriginal culture and social structure is one that has enabled longivity.

Aboriginal art reflects stories and our way of life, today this art is maintained in modern day on canvas/linen, previously great amounts of time was taken to paint or draw a picture in the dirt as a way of explaining and passing down this knowledge.

Once understood the painting would be rubed out and they would continue on with life. The western world in contrast used text to prodominatly document history.  My art comes from a direct spirtual connection with messages of love and respect for out mother earth and all peoples who enjoy her abundant gifts.  I would feel that my peoples culture and love of  mother earth is something that our world needs at this time.  The technological revolution is wonderful however this needs to be balanced
with a love for our planet and understanding that everything we achive in our evolution and advancement ultimately comes from mother earth.

Yours in Unity,

Alison Buchanan. (Junoy Mariwan)
