ORIGINAL 'ANTIQUE DIE ENTWICKELUNG DES GEIGENBAUES IN ITALIEN (THE DEVELOPMENT OF VIOLIN MAKING IN ITALY)' FAMILY TREE LITHOGRAPH PUBLISHED BY 'VERLAG VON A.H. PAYNE LIEPZIG'

This is a great piece.  I have actually had this in my office for a while now as I have been trying to find another example of this print.  I have had no luck.  My guess is that there are a few in museums in Italy and Germany as well as a couple in private collections out there but that is about it.  Based on my research this dates to the second half of the 19th Century.  It is really a wonderful piece of history and a must have for any violin aficionado or collector. This original print shows the roots of the trees dating to the very beginning of the violin from 1440 and forward.  Those roots lead up the tree to where the beginning of the most important violin makers of all time including the Gasparo da Salo (Bertolotti), Amati family, Guarnerius, and up to Antonius Stradivarius and his family.  Truly just an incredible wealth of knowledge about the development of the violin in Italy.  Lithograph on paper measuring 24 x 20 inches.  The print is laid down on an early backing.  There is some spotting in the image but nothing too bad and the entire print is still wonderfully vibrant and legible.  Some additional staining along the margins but again nothing too bad.  Really a remarkably preserved example of this scarce and important print.  Period frame is complimentary and ready to hang.  Frame measures 25 3/4 x 21 3/4 inches.  Do your own research on this incredible print.  A must have for any violin historian, collector, or player.  Also, if you collect violin related merchandise check out my store for the antique violin band CDV I am also selling.  FREE SHIPPING ANYWHERE IN THE UNITED STATES.
