The book set was written by John Lloyd Stephens was an American explorer, writer, diplomat, and pivotal figure in the rediscovery of Mayan civilization throughout Middle America. Stephens’ work marks the beginning of Central American archeology for the United States.

This is a beautiful leather bound two volume set with bronze plate decoration embossed in the covers and gorgeously gilt edges. The set includes 66 illustrated plates in steel engraving and lithography. The set is on incidents of travel in Central America focusing on the Mayan civilization.

Many of the drawings shown in the book go back to an expedition in Central America carried out in 1839 and show numerous monuments that are now destroyed. The set is in excellent condition, and each volume measures 10” inches in length and 7” inches in width. I've attached ten images to this email of the book set.
