This splendid drawing is by James Ward, an artist justly celebrated for his wildlife and sporting art. 

  It measures around 11 cm x 8 cm (visible sheet in mount aperture).  

Signed lower right 'JW.' Nicely presented in a red mount with skillfully-applied gilt lettering.  

Ward was elected ARA in 1807 and usually added the letters to his monogram when he signed works on paper, 

so we assume that this piece dates from the last years of the 18th Century, or the first few years of the 19th Century.
