THIS LISTING IS FOR ONE OF THE RARE ORIGINAL KRAMER GUITARS OWNED & PLAYED BY MICK MARS OF MOTLEY CRUE. HERE IS THE HISTORY BEHIND IT.........
You are looking at 1 of Mick Mars original 6 Kramer guitars made just for him by Kramer. It came to Mick with a no finish raw top. Mick's tech (Bobby O) gave it to Joe Perry's tech, Elwood Francis, in Aerosmith. Bobby wanted Elwood to give it the "bone finish" that he had done for some of Joe's guitars. Joe caught wind of it and told Elwood not to use the bone finish because he did not want Mick playing a guitar that looked like his. So Bobby told Elwood to "surprise" him. Elwood and Bobby both loved WWE wrestling so Elwood decorated the body with a wrestling collage. During this time Mick broke the neck on his #1 Kramer guitar, the Mirror Guitar played during the Dr. Feelgood tour and in many videos, including Kickstart My Heart. Bobby took this #1 neck and had it fixed by well known guitar luthier Sammy Sanchez (you can still see the crack in the headstock). Bobby put the #2 Kramer neck back on the Mirror guitar and married the #1 Mirror guitar neck to the Wrestling guitar. Sammy put black hardware on the neck to match the black hardware on the Wrestling guitar. Mick took the Wrestling guitar on tour. However, Mick did not get it back until the end of 1990 near the end of the Dr. Feelgood tour. So Mick only had the chance to play it in a few shows. Mick also had it as his #2 guitar for the Decade Of Decadence and Monsters of Rock tours in 1991. After that short run of shows Mick had a falling out with Kramer and stopped playing their guitars. You can still see the area on the back of the neck where Mick's rocket device on the Mirror guitar was hooked up. I have also included a photo of the neck when it was being used on the Mirror guitar with the rocket device. What you have here is nothing short of amazing. You have 1 of Mick's original 6 Kramer guitars married to the Kramer neck from his "Mirror" Kramer. The neck of this guitar was in the Dr. Feelgood, Kickstart My Heart, and Same Ol' Situation videos. This guitar was decorated by Aerosmith's tech Elwood Francis (who is now ZZ Top's bassist). This guitar has fantastic history and provenance.
The only other known Mars-owned guitar to ever hit the auction block sold for over $60,000 in 2014. Recently a private sale of a Mars owned guitar sold for over $50,000. Mick Mars has created some of the most well known guitar riffs in rock history including "Dr. Feelgood", "Girls Girls Girls", "Wild Side", "Looks That Kill", and "Kickstart My Heart" to name just a few. Also included is a large aluminum plaque for framing purposes and a signed COA from Mars long time guitar tech. The guitar is in very good condition. The wrestling photos and collage are from WWE newspaper and magazine articles. Some sort of a shellac finish was applied. This Wrestling design has held up for over 33 years. So it has held up surprisingly well. I feel that the finish will continue to hold up as long as it is properly stored in a low humidity environment. The aluminum plaque is in excellent shape. The original hard shell case is no longer with it. It will be shipped securely packed and insured.
