"Barris Kustom 51 Merc"

What entered the Barris shop as a 1951 Mercury Club Coupe emerged as the most-famous custom Merc of the '50s. It was chopped and converted to hardtop styling with sculptured chrome window frames housing all the side-glass for a signature Barris look. The front featured frenched headlights, floating grille and V-butted windshield. The sides were shaved and fitted with 1953 Buick Riviera side trims blending into the rear fender skirts with working air scoops. Finished in light green with sea foam side panels, the original revolutionary Hirohata Merc made an appearance in the hot rod movie, Running Wild!

George and Sam Barris were miles ahead of custom car builders when they opened the Barris Kustom body shop in Southern California in the postwar '40s. Their extreme designs and custom craftsmanship influenced the '50s custom car scene and earned them the title "Kings of Kustomizing".

It wasn't long before Hollywood took notice and made stars of their flamboyant cars. After Sam passed away in 1967, George continued producing hundreds of award-winning showstoppers and fantasy movie cars more famous than the stars. In the world of showbiz, the Barris crest is the mark of a Hollywood legend.

The Barris Kustom collection has been created exclusively for the HOT WHEELS LEGENDS series. This 1:64 scale die-cast metal and plastic replica has approximately 30 scale parts and real chrome-plated parts. It is crafted with the meticulous attention to detail that has been a HOT WHEELS tradition for over 50 years. This Barris Kustom is a limited edition.
