Grumman designed the F7F Tigercat as a heavy fighter to outperform and outgun all existing fighter aircraft with added ground attack capabilities, and the results met expectations.

The aircraft went into service too late to participate in WWII, but it was used in Korea and continued in service until 1954.

It was armed with four 20mm cannons and four 50 caliber machine guns and had numerous hardpoints for bombs and torpedoes.

We'll include a copy of the original construction article.
