All kinds of things in the world of Edo kabuki, such as backstage, actors, props, gimmicks, etc., are taken up and illustrated in this book. Shikitei Sanba, who was highly regarded for his humorous books, parodied Kabuki by categorizing it in the form of the encyclopedia that was being published at the time, and completed this masterpiece as an entertainment work that went beyond being a mere reference book.
