This is an extremely rare original single Border Index playing card.

It was printed in Cincinnati, Ohio by the Paper Fabrique Playing Card Company in 1878.

Border Index cards were created be legendary inventor Clyde W. Saladee in 1877. It was Saladee who invented the system of playing card indexes that we use still today! Saladee created the modern index when he developed “Saladee’s Patent” playing cards in the 1860s which placed 4 small numbers/letters in each of the corners. Border Index cards were created as another one of Saladee’s playing card innovations.

These Border Index cards have very unique number and court cards that repeat the indexes many times around the edge of the card. The court cards from the deck are especially beautiful and feature detailed drawings of a real member of European royalty from the 1870s.

Today, Border Index cards are extremely scarce and prized by collectors. Complete decks in mint condition book for $3,000 and single cards almost never come up for sale.

The condition is very good! There is some minor wear from play. See pictures for best description of condition.

Each of my Border Index cards are encapsulated in a high quality, archival screw down case that protects and beautifully displays these historical cards.

Don’t miss this opportunity!
