Can you please help care for our Rescue Galgo Lakota at 112 Carlota Galgos?

Written by Charl:  Introducing Lakota (meaning friend)

Introducing Lakota (meaning Friend) and Chai (meaning Life) ..
So, we head of earlier than expected on the call of these girls galguero.
Arriving at the place to pick them up, hes there standing in the shade with these 2 souls overheated and his motorbike there.
I asked him if he'd come on his bike, his reply was that they girls came via car of a friend and he came on his bike. I'd guess otherwise looking at them exhausted on the floor over heated. However how can I say for sure.. I didn't see with my own eyes as we arrived after but seeing the girls there exhausted made me think I was right in my thoughts.

The baby girl Chai.. means LIFE for now she lives, he tells me isnt her baby after all. But he found her. Maybe so.. maybe not. Maybe she is Lakota's baby. For many a time galgueros see "people like us" as someone from another land.. and their lies they think we believe. To be honest at times.. I dont care. For I work with what I see in front of me at the time, and to save these lives is paramount.
For change comes at times with the elder generation because they're tired of robbery inbetween themselves or just tired. Passing down the line the trade.. or maybe not. Change comes from the youth of today to make the future better.
To a degree.. and this sounds strange, you can feel sorry for the life of harder times.. for he was illiterate to sign over Lakota. But he did. Make no mistake.. theres MANY an intelligent galguero.. we've met many an opthalmologist with their own shop who have abandoned their dog.. and wont pay the money to change the ownership. Despite the affluence they have! "I gave him away years ago" we hear so often to a dog we pick up abandoned with nails curled over.

So.. in these girls case, he goes on to tell us he has no more galgos. The daughter he gave away and Chai he picked up of the street.

Mama Lakota looks well. Despite flea ridden. But nothing in comparison to Chai. Shes riddled. Bruised and for now exhausted. Deflead wormed they rest for now in their big transportine to catch their breath. Chai is tired. No surprise shes eaten alive by ticks and fleas.
Frontline is one of those absolutely life saving liquids which goes like you wouldn't believe.
Its a life saver.. but a killer to critters who these souls just dont need.

The girls for now rest quietly before heading of to the clinic later on. Chai gives me a ? So young and eaten alive. Lakota looks ok.. chubby from worms but they will die away. Scared .. well not on first reaction. Cautious and perhaps shocked. But then shes exhausted from I'm pretty sure coming along side the motorbike to freedom.
Here they start the 1st day of the rest of their lives.

Lakota.. a friend to Chai. Propping this young soul up in support the best way she can

Your £10 donation would make a real difference as 112 Carlota Galgos is entirely self funded and relies on donations to continue its work.  Your donation would help to pay for the costs of veterinary care, feeding and caring for Lakota.  In recognition of your support you will be sent a personal letter of thanks with an information leaflet from 112 Carlota Galgos

112 Carlota Galgos was founded in 2006 when Charlotte started to publish about the plight of the galgos, later on becoming an association which rescues as many galgos as possible, caring for them on a personal basis and socialising traumatised cases in order to be adopted

It is drastic and each association is struggling to do their very best for this special breed of dog.  We are a voluntary organisation and rely entirely on donations and money raised from various fundraising projects.  We do not receive any funding from the Government or local authority, and all the help we receive is voluntary

We take in galgos from across Spain – it does not matter where they come from if they are in need.  Many a galgo or podenco comes into care in tragic circumstances, poorly wounded and skeletal.  Aside from injuries which need curing, they at times need more specialist medical treatment such as a limb amputated.  Their will to survive is immense and we promise to them to heal their wounds and mend their hearts, and find a forever home for them.  The ultimate goal!  Achieving this is not cheap and without donations from kind hearted people the galgos would not make it to their ultimate goal

Stumbling upon a Finca with run down kennels, room to build even more kennels, land, stable, storage space, garden, play area and field, coupled with a house it seemed to be the perfect opportunity to move the galgos to a place where they can play out, still be trained and socialised on the walks, have everything at hand, and be on call at the same time. Charlotte would never consider having the galgos somewhere if there is not the security measure of someone  being on the property. The risks are too great

With the focus at the very heart of 112 Carlota galgos being children and the educational centre, the finca presented itself as potential for this to take place in the future
At the very heart of 112 Carlota Galgos are Galgos and children. We take very seriously the potential which a child offers for the future. In every aspect of life, the young child is a sponge which absorbs what is around him/her. The very environment in which they grow up in, play in, live in, is what they will replicate as reality and normality. It's here where change can take place. If we make the care and welfare of an animal normality in a child’s life, it will become their reality

Galgos are used in hunting hares in Spain, and when it is not the season many wander the streets abandoned. Left to their own luck, hanged, dropped in rubbish bins, wells, burnt, anything to rid the trace of having had a Galgo.  Unless in the hands of an association, they are doomed from birth. Hunters from 2 months will be training, and from birth they will be picked out good or bad. From one litter of ten only one MAY make a hunting dog. The rest, surplus to requirements.  Overbreeding leads to mass abandonment of Galgos and these numbers reach way over 50,000. The figures for those not rescued are far in excess of this

112 Carlota Galgos based in Malaga, Spain is dedicated to every Spanish galgo who is being tortured as you read this and awaiting the kind hand of courage to come and rescue them.  Every letter Charlotte has written, had published and every person she has spoken to about the galgos, it is in dedication to them.  To the associations who work tirelessly to save, mend and further protect galgos from the cruel hands of the hunter
