With air travel and carrier based warfare, the importance of islands as bases caused map makers to scrupulously locate every minor island and even many atolls. Here on this map, you can peruse the many "Spratly Islands" shown as Japanese controlled territories, though not much is shown to describe the land or where the towns are.
