Description:
Oil on canvas. Signed with the artists monogram to the lower right and signed Alfred Larsen on the exhibition label on the back. The painting was exhibited in 1888 at the (Den Nordiske Kunstudstilling. 1888/ The Nordic Art Exhibition in Copenhagen 1888). The painting is titled: De gamle på kirkestien (1888)/ Old couples on the church Path and is also listed in Alfred Valdemar Larsens biography at weilbach art encyclopedia.
Large impressive symbolic oil with people, dressed in their Sunday clothes, leaving the church at dusk. Outstanding quality and should belong to a museum. A rare oil by Danish genre painter, Alfred Valdemar Larsen (1860-1946). A certificate of authenticity will be included with this work.
Condition:
Ready to hang. In good condition. There are some tiny cracks on the surface of the canvas, due to the age. Otherwise fine.

Important Danish genre painter. Educated at the Royal Academy of arts in 1878. Pupil of Danish master painter, P.S. Kroyer in 1884. Larsen exhibited his first picture in 1883 at the Royal Charlottenborg exhibition in Copenhagen. He also had shows in Paris, London and Munich in 1894. Larsen is best known for his series of symbolic figure scenes and evocative landscapes. He also designed book covers and bindings and worked for the National Museum in Copenhagen as a draftsman and restorer.
