Wonderful sliding book rack with design of a Native American chief in full headdress.

Cast iron by Judd Co of Bridgeport, CT, with their "Navajo finish."  Unusually, I find no stock number which is a mystery to me, since it clearly is a Judd piece.  I have a similar (different finish) book rack listed which DOES have a number - 9819 (which agrees with my original Judd catalogue).  I have never seen or heard of reproductions of Judd items, so I know this one is genuine. I just cannot explain the lack of stock number.  Circa 1930.

Condition is excellent.  No damage to any metal elements.  The screws holding the decorative end plates in place are original, the sliding rods work fine, and the stop mechanism works properly.  It stands evenly, without wobble.

Finish is original with really no flaws.

The end plates of the book rack stand 5 3/4 inches tall; 6 1/4 wide.  In closed (short) position, it is 12 1/2 inches long. In extended, open position, it is 22 inches long.  Weighs 3 1/2 pounds.

Perfect gift for the desk of the collector of decor with Native American theme.
