CONDITION NOTES: EX-LIBRARY.   VERY GOOD  Bookplate of the University of California (Berkeley) Engineering Library.  Spine label, stamps on rights page, and perforated "Univ of California" on title page.  Corners rubbed.  Pages clean without marks, creases, or tears.   All plates folded properly.   Original endpapers, excellent page and cover attachment.

The issue features an historical essay written by a young Franklin Delano Roosevelt (32 years old), Assistant Secretary of the Navy at the time.  FDR's third appearance in book form.

His scholarly essay "Our First Frigates:  Some Unpublished Facts About Their Construction" appears on pp. [139]-153 with plates 54-57 inclusive.   It was presented at the 22nd annual meeting of the Society held in New York on December 11th, 1914
