Zbinden (born August
26, 1893 in Bern ; † May 9, 1971 there ) was
a Swiss publisher and author . Zbinden
studied law and history in Bern and Zurich ; In 1919 he received his doctorate in Bern. From 1934 to
1959 he was director of the art book publisher Iris. In 1950 he was given
a teaching position in cultural
sociology and criticism ,
became honorary professor in Bern in
1955 , and was President of the Swiss Writers' Association from 1953
to 1967 . His best-known writings include Die Moralkrise des
Abendlandes (1940), Automation as a human problem (1957)
and The threatened human being (1959); With them he made
a significant contribution to the intellectual and cultural rethinking of
Switzerland after the Second World
War .His estate is in the Swiss Literary Archives .
