Offered is a 1920s era Art Moderne, porcelain vase. A timeless piece, designed by Eva Zeisel for SMF (Schramberg Majolica Factory), in Schramberg Germany. This particular hand-painted vase features a mix of vibrant colors on a smokey gray ground. The pattern is called Gobelin 4 (translates to “tapestry 4”)  and features a multicolored lattice-like design. The vase is in very good to excellent antique condition with no pottery chips, cracks or crazing. There are several tiny glaze chips on the rim of the vase-see photos. The base is stamped, “SMF SCHRAMBERG Handgemalt (hand-painted) 57 Gobelin 4”.

Eva Zeisel was one of the most fascinating ceramicists of the past century. She began her career at a young age in Hungary, then rose to great popularity during her tenure in Germany at the Schramberg ceramic works in the late 1920s and early 1930s with her avant garde pieces. She designed ceramics, china, tableware and glassware for many top American companies and is most well known for her iconic line of tableware commissioned by the Museum of Modern Art in 1946.
