BELGIAN CONGO - Colonial days / Koloniale Dagen
Belgian Congo was the name worn by the territory of the current Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) between November 15, 1908, end of the Congo Free State, personal possession for twenty-four years of King Leopold II of the Belgians, and the accession to Congolese independence, effective June 30, 1960. During the 52 years of the colonial period, the Belgian Congo was managed from Brussels, but with its army, the Force publique, under the authority of a governor general.
