US Civil War Model 1840 Artillery Sword with Scabbard. Most likely an Ames. The ricasso is marked "U S", "L.D.", and "1861". The top edge of the pommel has a faint "J.H.". The grip, guard and pommel are all tight. The grip has about 90% of the leather remaining. The twisted wire is complete. The blade is straight, unsharpened, a few very light nicks you can feel but not see, no pitting, no rust, and has scratch marks throughout from the scabbard on/off. The scabbard is solid with a couple tiny dings, the drag has a little wear on the bottom edge, and there is some light pitting with minor surface rust scattered. The leather washer is intact. Length of the blade is 32 1/4" (1 1/4" wide and 5/16" thick), the sword is 37 5/8", and in the scabbard it is 39 3/8".
