This is a beautiful, rare and old (c 1870s/1880s), or, possibly much older, Northwest Coast Kwakwaka'wakw or Nootka (Nuchanuhtul) ceremonial Raven rattle.

This specimen is not in the best of condition and could use some restoration work. The Rattle has lost its original shape -- the two halves don't align properly. It is bereft of pebbles and hide wrapping around the handle.

It has wonderful dark brown patina on the handle (indicative of long term handling). It's quite an old specimen -- there are some worm holes

I believe the animal, on the back of the Raven, is a stylized Wolf.

It's almost impossible to find a genuine 19th century Raven rattle for this price!!!

Measurements:
Length 14.5 inches...Width (from back of Wolf to the belly of Raven) 4.5 inches.
