What is a Lab Diamond Hybrid?

Constructed from a crystal core that has an infusion of enhanced synthetic diamond on the outer layer, the Diamond Hybrid possesses the most realistic brilliance you will ever see from a diamond simulant.


How is the Diamond Hybrid created?

The Diamond Hybrid is created by placing a perfectly cut crystal core or substrate into a chamber of intense heat and pressure and infusing lab-created diamond crystals, or bonding them at a molecular level, into the outer layers of the crystal core. These lab-created diamond crystals stack up on the core and realign with each other. The finished product is a diamond-infused simulant that has a non-precious crystal core and a solid outer layer of lab-created diamond that will never wear off or detach from the core.

What is the hardness and durability of a Diamond Hybrid?

The Diamond Hybrid has a hardness of 8.8, similar to a precious gem, like a Sapphire or Ruby, and should be treated with the same care. While it is incredibly hard, it is possible to damage a Diamond Hybrid as it is a simulant and NOT a diamond. The Hybrid stone, because of its infused outer diamond layer will not absorb oils from the everyday use of soaps, lotions and, beauty products.


We call it a "Lab Hybrid" because it is a blend of created diamond and diamond simulation technology. We start with a porous crystal core that is not diamond and then infuse a form of lab-grown diamond on the outer layer. Because it's not pure crystallized carbon and not 100% chemically identical to the earth-mined diamond it is still classified as a simulant.


HOW IS THE LAB DIAMOND HYBRID DIFFERENT FROM A GROWN OR MINED DIAMOND?

A lab-grown and earth-mined diamond are both real diamonds and contain 100% pure carbon. A Lab Diamond Hybrid is a stunning look-alike, perfect for placeholder rings, earrings, and pendants.


IS THE DIAMOND HYBRID A LAB-GROWN DIAMOND?

No, a Diamond Hybrid is a simulant, meaning it is not pure carbon (85%) like a lab-grown diamond (100%).


WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE DIAMOND HYBRID® AND SIMULANTS OFFERED BY OTHER JEWELERS?

The Diamond Hybrid is made with a form of man-made diamond, unlike cubic zirconia and moissanite which have no diamond components! It looks and feels like a diamond.


DOES THE DIAMOND HYBRID® TEST POSITIVE ON A DIAMOND TESTER?

No, it will not. Traditional diamond testers only measure "heat conductivity". Since the Diamond Hybrid® has a core that is not diamond, the heat dispersion is not the same, so it will test negative.


Please note that traditional diamond testers do not test for the presence of diamond or the SP3 carbon bonds themselves. This is why sometimes white sapphires or moissanite will test positive - moissanite is heavily silicone-based which is a great conductor of heat yet possess no diamond content. A moissanite tester is now available giving jewelers the ability to perform the test with the correct results, meaning they can now identify it as moissanite and not miss-identify it as just a poorly cut diamond with I/J coloring.


If you are looking for a diamond alternative that will test positive on a jeweler's Diamond tester, please have a look at lab-grown diamonds (CVD) which are 50% less expensive than an earth-mined diamond.


HOW DO I TAKE CARE OF MY DIAMOND HYBRID®?

At-home cleaning:

The best way to clean your jewelry is with warm tap water, mild hand soap, and a very soft children's toothbrush.


Allow your jewelry to soak in the soapy water for a few minutes; the hand soap will help dissolve the grease from body oils, which play a large part in trapping dirt onto your jewelry, especially rings.

With the soft toothbrush, gently scrub the jewelry to break-up trapped dirt. Be sure to get the underside of your stone with the brush if possible - build-up on the underside of gems makes them appear dull and gray.

Rinse in clean water and pat dry.

The outer layer of lab-created diamond, once integrated with the core crystal, gives the Diamond Hybrid an overall hardness of 8.8, making it about the same hardness as a ruby or sapphire, considerably harder than an emerald. However, it is not as hard as a pure carbon diamond at a 10 on the Mohs Scale.


However, Lab Diamond Hybrid stones are susceptible to the same types of peril that could cause a natural stone to chip or crack. It is important that you adhere to the following guidelines for wear and care of your Lab Diamond Hybrid:


-Be sure to remove your jewelry when doing activities or duties which would strike, repeatedly wear, knock or potentially damage your Diamond Hybrid jewelry.


-Never put multiple earth-mined and/or lab-created precious stones and gems together, keep your jewelry separate to prevent scratching.


-To keep your Diamond Hybrid brilliant and full of fire, keep lotions, perfumes, oils, cake soap, etc. away from all your jewelry and clean regularly.


-Keep in mind the material of the ring, and follow the care instructions for silver jewelry.
