JOHN GLENN UNOFFICIAL 1963 "ORBIT" KING SEELEY METAL LUNCHBOX AND THERMOS!!!

This lunchbox and thermos are RARE! Why? Because in 1963, after NASA Astronaut John Glenn's historic first American orbital space flight, the King Seeley company created a lunchbox and thermos to capitalize on the event. However, they used NASA conceptual artwork on the items without approval from NASA! They were ordered to take the lunchbox and thermos off the market immediately!

Please see the scans of this lunchbox. It is in used condition. It no doubt had seen its share of school lunch rooms, school bus rides, and perhaps some playground activities. But it's the patina that enhances it. I've seen some on eBay that have been re-painted, pieces added, sometimes in the wrong color. The only thing missing on this box is the inside piece of wire meant to hold the thermos in place. It's a piece of space history, capitalist history, and it's time to let someone else enjoy it. I had the pleasure of knowing John Glenn, working on his presidential campaign, and even driving him and Annie through an Iowa snowstorm to get to a campaign debate. Very few of us get to meet a real American hero.
