Rare and wonderful Gilded Age large footed shell dish with dolphin handle, dates we think to the late 19th or early 20th century, and is fashioned in shimmering German .800 silver. Measuring about 8 1/2" x 8 1/2", and standing about 4 1/2" tall from the bottom of shell foot to the tip of the dolphin head handle, the dish is not heavy , weighing  274 grams on our silver scale. In very good, as found estate condition, we  photographed the dish out doors under a red umbrella, and had to make photos with out color to eliminate confusion.  We think perhaps the interior was at one time silver gilt, but now the whole piece is a shimmering frosted silver finish, with a small tear to the silver about 1/4" long at the site of an old repair in the back at the base of the dolphin head, and just minor indentations where the shell feet have been attached.
Clearly engraved with German hall marks of crown, crescent, and the number .800, the attention to detail is fabulous, and this is an outstanding addition to an antique silver collection. Offered with out reserve.
