Vintage Panamanian Armadillo Tagua Nut Carving---New, signed by artist

An Armadillo seeking another--- intricately carved by artists from Panama, specifically the indigenous Wounaan and Embera people, in the land where tagua nuts are native and sustainably grown. This figurine was carefully carved and hand colored with natural dyes by native artisans. The piece is beautifully carved and detailed and depicts one armadillo above looking down on another armadillo, probably entering its burrow.  The markings on the armadillo are tiny and exquisite.  The hand carved claws are barely larger than a hair and still have painted detail----amazing work! This piece is hand signed by this accomplished artist---see photo.

Supporting these artisans not only generates income for them but also helps to protect away of life for indigenous people and preserves the forest they dwell in. The tagua nut is grown specifically on the tagua palm within their rain forest and is prized for its texture and ability to be finely carved.
