This silver plate over copper antique measures 15.75" by 27" overall and the length excluding the handles is 22". It was purchased at the Bermondsey market in London over 40 years ago and is from the late 19th century when the wealthy, landed families of England still had butlers. It is unmarked for the manufacturer or the plate quality. It is made of an alloy of silverplate over copper as the base metal. It has some silver plate worn off on the top side and there is a black spot on the bottom. The silver plate has worn off in some places, exposing the copper metal base, but the tray has a beatiful patina and looks elegant on any table. The handles are still very secure. It is a very heavy piece, weighing in at 7 lbs. It is of a simple design and is not ornate. It makes an elegant addition to your holiday table or to your special event table.
