Historical context :

Hunting, also known as "hunting", is an ancestral hunting method that consists of pursuing a wild animal (traditionally deer, wild boar, roe deer, fox or hare) with a pack of hounds, until its exhaustion and its grip. Only dogs hunt, thanks to their sense of smell and their predatory instinct. The role of the man, generally cavalier for the occasion, consists in controlling them and following them.

Hunting with hounds is practiced in France, the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, Italy and Portugal (crew of Santo Huberto). In France, stags, roe deer, wild boars, foxes, hares and rabbits are hunted with hounds.

Description of an expert in the gazette of weapons N°146 of October 1985

Your sword is a very fine German hunting weapon of remarkable quality. The etched blade bears the unidentified Styrian mint mark. According to the style, we date it between 1740 and 1760. As for the text and the date engraved on the blade, they certainly have a meaning, but this escapes us.
