2 private letters CHUR 1824 & 1834: Anna M. SCHMID to a friend

You bid two letters from 1824 and 1834 out of Chur.

Written by one Anna Margareth Schmid, addressed to her friend Elise Heinrich, b. Koehl by Rogister in Laibach (Ljubljana). From 1818 she was the wife of Franz Xaver Heinrich (1797-1844), professor at the Ljubljana high school. Elise Heinrich probably came from Chur, because members of the Köhl von Rogister family can be traced there.

Dated Chur, 12. April 1824 and 8. June 1834.

Behind the signature of the first letter addition "au Pedolin".

Scope: into the. 5 pages of text and 2 pages of address (25.5 x 21 cm), but not sent by post (the letters were delivered personally by the recipient's uncle).

The first letter begins with an apology for not writing for a long time: "I started writing to you four months ago, soon I was interrupted during the day, and in the evenings I fall asleep when I want to read or write after 9 o'clock (I knew about this weakness in the unmarried days nothing)."

After a paragraph, the transcript of the letter that she started 4 months ago begins... (dated 6. December 1823).

Mentioned are Mr. Capretz, Madame Mangelt and their three daughters Anna Margareth (6 ¼ years), Barbara Elise (4 ½ years) and Ursine (2 ¼ years).

She writes that the whooping cough is rampant and she longs for her childhood friend (the recipient). She hopes to meet Elise's husband and invites them both to Switzerland.

Then about the sudden death of a Madame Bundi shortly after her trip to Paris and other residents of Chur (love affairs, professors, etc. are mentioned).

Excerpts from the 2nd Letter: "Yet I hear that you are still a beautiful woman, WEN beauty suffers from having 6 children, O could I fly there and see you for an hour in the circle of yours [...]."

She writes about the death of a son who died two years earlier at the age of 4 ½: "The sad case made me 10 years older."

Her sister is also unhappy because her husband is addicted to drinking and is using up her fortune.

Note at the end: "Sorry about the mistake as I rarely write letters."

Upper left each mwith the stamp of the Zhuber von Okrog family (the relationship is unclear to me).

Condition: Paper browned (more so on the first letter, only slightly on the second), slightly creased; into the. good condition. Please note also the pictures at the end of the item description!
