This is a complete uniform for the Royal Air Force Auxiliary dating back to the 1950s. The uniform is a no 1 dress for a pilot officer issued during the Korean War era. The clothing type is a complete uniform, which was issued to members of the Air Force during the period. The uniform is made in the United Kingdom with strict adherence to quality standards.


History of the uniform - This is the dress uniform of my uncle - he joined his university air sqn, just after WII and on qualification as a pilot transferred to the auxiliary reserve - including flying duties in the far east in support of the Korean War. This dress uniform was the first of his to be re-buttoned on the death of the King to the Queens crown. After the end of his service he joined the Hughes company later re-named Boeing and he completed 25 years of service in the design dept - His biggest project was the 747 for which he was one of the 4500 personnel in the engineering/flying design team.


The uniform is classified as a collectable and belongs to the category of militaria, specifically other militaria and other forces. Similar items in similar condition can sell for upwards of 300 to 600 pounds with medals and rank increasing value. Uniform trousers are original button fly, with no belt hoops just standard issue braces buttons , internal trouser pocket cloth is yellowed slightly with age. The uniform has been in storage in the spare bedroom wardrobe for about the last 15years. The jacket has only slight discolouring and a single brass button missing - The buttons are period solid brass as oppose to the modern stay bright buttons issued today. The cap has some peak discolouring and some stitches gone on the internal leather head band.


My late uncle was a small man and slim very much in time with the rationing going on in 40’s/50s Britain during and after the war, he therefore had a very medium physic the inside leg is 28” waist is 30” and chest 30” roughly , I wore the item in a school play at 14 the cap is for a small head. My measurements at 25 were inside leg 32” waist 32” Chest 38” , head 58cm and the uniform did not fit me in adulthood.
