The imperial and military order of Saint George, martyr and victorious is an honorary order which rewards exclusively military merits. It was established by Catherine II in 1769 to reward officers and soldiers.

Very beautiful and rare Saint George cross. Tsar Nicholas II period, in white metal (BM). 4th class, '' 277005 ''. War 1914-1918. Saint George on one side and the other symbol of the saint. Given the lack of precious metals during WW1, the Tsar decided to promulgate an ukaz (law) which imposed the use of white metal for the manufacture of 3rd and 4th class crosses and yellow or gold metal for the 1st and 2nd. class. The same law will also impact officer's crosses which will no longer be in gold, as before the war, but in bronze or gilded metal covered with white enamel. The koldka is also signed by the manufacturer '' P N NOVIKOV 13789 ''. Very beautiful piece, very pleasant to hold in the hands and even more pleasant to observe in the window!
