This is a nice old Kwakwaka'wakw (Kwakiutl) ceremonial or Shaman's rattle. It dates from the late 19th century/early 20th (1890s - 1920s)

The rattle has double faces, the wood is Red Cedar. There are traces of reddish-brown paint. This makes a beautiful sound when shaken.

A beautiful and wonderful old Northwest Coast artifact.
