＊This is a variable multi-curve phono equalizer amplifier that supports the cutting characteristics of all analog records from 78 rpm SP to 33 1/3 rpm monaural LP.

Features

The equalizer correction values for low-frequency correction turnover and high-frequency correction roll-off can be adjusted completely independently in 10 types as shown on the panel, and there is no interference with each other, so 100 types of combinations are possible.

Typical cutting characteristics include four types of 78-rpm SP, pre-war and post-war (EU78 ~1945, AM78 ~1945, EU78 1945~, AM78 1945~), starting from 1945 in the United States and Europe, and RIAA and other LP types. It is easy to preset to AES, DECCA, Columbia, and NAB.

In particular, DECCA, Columbia, and RIAA have individual Bass Limit characteristics to suppress the rise limit of the low range and ensure correct reproduction. We have developed it as an easy-to-use product that will satisfy analog record enthusiasts, from SP experts to monaural LP enthusiasts and those who want to listen to pre-stereo records.

Each variable value was carefully calculated for each filter circuit using a computer-based circuit simulator, the actual circuit was confirmed using an Audio Precision measuring instrument, and a rotary switch was used to switch between capacitors and resistors. Each switch is designed so that the noise when switching is almost inconspicuous so that you can operate it while listening to a record.

Many conventional variable equalizers use volume to change various curves, but volume type equalizers have issues such as the contact quality of the rotating slider and errors in rotational position and resistance value, resulting in irregular panel displays. I have no choice but to. EQ-100 eliminates all of these concerns.

It also features an exterior design and wooden frame that blend in with vintage equipment, and a foldable tilt stand to make the front panel easier to see and operate. With this device, you will discover new things, such as musical expressions and performers' intentions that have been hidden or buried until now.

input/output

Although this unit has a monaural configuration, it has two inputs and two outputs for easy connection to stereo system equipment, and each can be connected to L and R. Of course, a complete monaural system with one speaker is also fine. The input is compatible with MC and MM cartridges, and the MC has a gain and load that is ideal for modern monaural MC types.

For MM input, in addition to the usual 47kΩ load MM cartridge, there is also a load suitable for variable reluctance type (commonly known as Barilera) (VR-1), and it also supports the broadcast station type and early Bachman type.

(VR-2)

When a stereo cartridge is connected, vertical vibrations are canceled inside the unit, only horizontal R+L signals are extracted, and a mono signal with low noise and fixed localization is output. The output is rated at 2Vrms and has a quasi-standard signal level, so there is no difference in level from modern systems.

If you have two units, you can also use them as independent L/R stereo phono equalizers.

Various functions

Equipped with a large MUTE button, which is popular in the phono equalizer series, it eliminates the noise of raising and lowering the cartridge, making changing records comfortable.

In particular, some SP discs have a groove cut to allow the arm to swing left and right at the end of the song in order to activate the auto-stop mechanism of the mechanical gramophone, but this creates excessive noise when played on an electric machine. In that case, it is convenient to have this MUTE button as it can instantly turn off the noise.

In addition, it is now possible to instantly switch between Variable and RIAA so that comparisons with RIAA can be easily made.

Amplifier circuit, parts

It uses the same amplifier module as the VIDA-MkII, which made extensive use of silicon transistors and FETs such as NEC and Toshiba's 2SCxxx, 2SAxxx, and 2SKxxx from the peak of analog circuits in the 1980s, and also uses the Burr-Brown OPA627 and Linear Technology LT1028, which are top-of-the-line operational amplifiers. It was designed to have both sound quality and electrical characteristics by using the right materials in the right places.

The capacitors are of German WIMA and domestic polypropylene type, the resistors are TAKMAN, the power supply is a toroidal transformer, and the rectifier is a Schottky barrier diode with minimal noise. The circuit is arranged so that the wiring of components within each block is as short as possible, and consideration has been given to separating the input, output, and power supply sections of the ground pattern.

All rotary switches and MUTE switches are reliable Japanese products such as ALPS, OMRON, and NKK.
