This is an extremely rare 1973  Shell Gasoline promotional fluorescent lime peeping bomb with its unpunched promo card in its original baggie. Worldwide inflation and the gas crisis forced Americans to think of their cars as more than status icons. For the first time, Mattel suffered the effects of inflation and a slump in the toy industry. The situation was complicated by internal problems. Cost cutting moves were made across the entire line and only three new castings were produced. Although 21 of the old castings were reissued, car quality suffered. The cars were now painted in rather unexciting enamel colors. Many collectors quit buying the now somewhat drab Hot Wheels vehicles and sales dropped. Mattel, in turn, cut production. The 1973 models were only issued for one year, making them among the most expensive and difficult to find. Also during this year, Mattel produced a series of 10 promo cars for the Shell Oil company. This is one of those models. The car is in mint condition The baggie has cracks but car appears to never have been removed.
