Fender JM-66-80 1966 Reissue Jazzmaster 3-Tone Sunburst 2009 Electric Guitar

Here for sale we have a Fender JM-66-80 1966 Reissue Jazzmaster in 3-Tone Sunburst finish. Made in Japan between 2009, this guitar features a bolt-on construction comprising an Alder body, Maple neck and 21 fret Rosewood fingerboard. This instrument is fitted with Chrome hardware including an Adjusto-Matic bridge with Floating Tremolo Tailpiece and Vintage style tuning machines. A pair of Alnico Jazzmaster single-coil pickups are installed, and are wired to a 3-way toggle switch, master volume and tone controls, as well as a rhythm circuit with thumbwheel volume and tone controls.

The Maple neck plays fantastically well, with the 'Oval Type' profile feeling reminiscent of a slim 'D' profile. This provides a nicely flattened area to the centre which encourages ergonomic thumb positioning and comfortable reach in all registers. The Gloss finish to the rear assists with smooth navigation of the 25.5" scale, whilst the 7.25" radius provides a suitably vintage-inspired playing experience. The offset body with generous cutaways enhances access to the upper frets, whilst also feeling very comfortable in the arms and balanced on a strap. Ergonomic control placement provides easy access to the rhythm circuit whilst playing, with the usual 3-way toggle switch, master volume and tone controls also comfortably within reach.

The pair of Jazzmaster single-coil pickups installed in this guitar work in conjunction with the switch and controls to deliver a very versatile set of tones. When the lead circuit is engaged the tone is bright and glistening, providing the kind of jangly, sparkly tone that the Jazzmaster is well known for. The neck pickup is full-bodied and round for solo tones, whilst the bridge pickup provides the brightness and clarity required to catapult you to the front of the mix. When switching to the rhythm circuit, a much darker and warmer tone is heard, well suited to Jazz styles, shoegaze and even grunge genres. A typically well made Japanese instrument, and at 15 years old has genuine vintage mojo.

Aesthetic Condition:

Headstock: Overall very good condition. Light denting which lightly pierces the finish is present to the top edge. Any other markings to the headstock are difficult to discern.

Neck: Overall excellent condition. Light scratching to the rear of the neck is visible under direct light, as is common with high gloss finishes. Any markings to the fingerboard are difficult to discern.

Body: Overall very good condition. Light indentations are present around the edge of the lower bout, lightly piercing the finish in places. This is most notable to the treble side edge. Light scratching to all surfaces is visible under direct light, as is common with high gloss finishes. The pickguard shows milder scratching, consistent with light playwear.

Condition of Frets:

The frets demonstrate very light signs of use, not affecting playability. There is considerable material remaining for any fret work the new owner may wish to perform.

Further Notes:

We have set the action to 2mm on the treble side to alleviate fret noise and choking when bending. Lowering the action would result in reduced playability on this guitar and is not advised without further investigative and remedial work.
