Ladies and Gentleman for those of you who are Globe Wernicke® Macey stack barrister legal bookcase collectors, restorers and fans these are EXACTLY what you need to finish detailing your bookcase units. We have spent endless hours locating a source for these knobsThis auction is for 2 (two), AGED/BURNISHED), base knobs. Knob width at the TOP DIAMETER is 1 3/16", TOTAL KNOB HEIGHT is 7/8", BASE WIDTH IS 1/2". These are the correct size and profile for the drawer bases for Globe Wernicke® and Macey stack units (although they work great for Gunn, Lundstrum, Weis, Danner and others as well). There were at least 8 different styles of knobs. This style was the most prominent and the best made of the 4 cast versions. It is made of polished brass and then aged to match your original knobs profile dimensionally. It is almost impossible to get color matches with any of these knobs: old or new, aged or off the same stack. The aging and burnishing process takes a 5 step process and can be hazardous to perform. The aging/burnishing is done at essentially cost. See our ad for Aging Solution. If you want the knobs polished it is in another of our ads, please see the other ad. We have had many calls for these base knobs in the past and they went for high prices to discriminating restorers as the only source was robbing original bases for these knobs.  DO NOT BE FOOLED!!! YOU CAN NOT GO OUT TO JUST ANY OF THE HARDWARE SUPPLY SOURCES AVAILABLE TODAY AND JUST GET THESE KNOBS!!! We looked through THOUSANDS of suppliers inventories to finally find these. OTHER BOOKCASE DRAWER BASE KNOBS BEING SOLD TODAY ON EBAY ARE NOT CORRECT!!!  Additional quantities of these are available to the winning bidder at a discount and with free shipping. THESE COME WITH THE CORRECT SIZE AND STYLE MOUNTING SCREWS. THE OTHER KNOBS FOR SALE ON EBAY DO NOT AND THEY ARE OBVIOUSLY WRONG WHEN INSTALLED!!!  We use these parts in our own inventory and library and these fit in perfectly with the original units. We have several other knob listings as well for the Globe Wernicke® cases to cover all possible restoration needs.

REGARDING THE AGING PROCESS.  Many think that the process of getting that perfect aged look of these knobs through Aging and Burnishing is easy. It is NOT. I can't begin to tell you of the hours, money, equipment and injuries invested in getting it right. To get that perfect aged look to your antique Macey Globe Wernicke® stacks we:  start with a Polished knob (2nd Photo for reference), then soak the knob in strong stripper for a week to remove the baked on hardened lacquer finish off. The Polished knobs with their baked hardened lacquer coating will probably never age (SERIOUSLY). Then the knobs are fine wire wheeled, fine cloth high buff wheel polished with compound, cleaned with thinner, then put into the acid aging solution for just exactly the right amount of time. They are then allowed to dry for 24 hours. Next they are wiped down by hand, then lightly Burnished on a high speed cloth buffing wheel (dry) to give that perfect luster Burnished/Aged look OR hand buffed at this point for that Satin look. Because of the exhaustive work involved we perform this process in batches of Fifty knobs at a time. There may be a wait time if we are in between batches. The total process takes about 10 days.  We use these very same Aged/Burnished or Satin knobs on our own inventory of cases. They look fabulous installed and matching in size. The finishes vary just enough to give the entire stack installation a flawless, authentic to original, aged antique look. Often the stack units have been "married together" over time as more books were added to the library. That often resulted in a diverse different style of knobs on different sections. This is picked up by admirers (buyers?) of your stack. We universalize all our stacks and libraries. In our experience the Aged/Burnished knobs look best on the Oak stacks in Walnut stains (the predominate stain on 80% of all units produced). The Polished brass looks best on the Fumed Oak, Golden Oak, Mahogany stained Oak, True Mahogany and Mahogany stained Birch units. These are all the standard stain options offered by the Globe Wernicke® Macey Corporation.  See our other eBay ad for the Polished brass versions. Everyone has their own preference and now we can meet your individual tastes no matter what your preferences are.
