Indian
War Small Utility of Medicine Bottle (Fort Pembina)
Description:
This is one of several items recovered from the Fort
Pembina privies. Fort Pembina was located just west of the Red River and was
built to watch over the Sioux and to ensure the safety of those living along
the Red River. The fort was completed in 1870/71 and caught on fire in 1895.
Some of the troops assisted in suppressing a Fenian Raid into Canada. The
privies were full of items dating from the Civil War up through the late Indian
War era.
This is a very nice small size utility or medicine bottle
recovered from the privies. This example is made of clear glass. It has a wavy
flat base with seams on opposite sides that run from the base to the start of
the flared lip. A very nice example that is free of chips or cracks. An
excellent Indian War period artifact with exceptional provenance!
