This is an amazing, ca 1870's -1880's Brown Satin and Cut Velvet Bustle Gown. Bodice is a rich brown satin that is trimmed down the front, around the neck, and at sleeve cuffs, in a deeper brown cut velvet.  Bodice buttons down the front and all buttons are there. I do not have a small enough form so please excuse the buttons not being closed.  It is boned on the inside and has weights around the inside bottom. There is a petersham labeled - Mrs W H Coffin, Rochester N.Y.  There are no underarm stains or tears.  There is one small tear where the cut velvet collar meets the satin. (shown)  Aside from that, bodice is in excellent condition.  Skirt is beautifully pleated satin with inserts of cut velvet.  It has a lovely draping in front that is padded on the inside.  Skirt closes in back with hook and eye. There is a museum number on the inside.  The dress is both machine and hand sewn.  Dress has the original lobster cage for the bustle.  This dress is in super amazing!!  Near mint condition!!!  This is a rare opportunity to own a gown of this age, in this condition, with the original lobster cage!!  A great addition to any collection.                                                                                                  32
