Atmospheric original oil painting on canvas, depicting a view of the Italian Island of Capri, off the Sorrento Coast, on The edge of The Bay of Naples, with fishing boats in the foreground close to buildings at the water's edge, and the highest point of the island, Monte Solaro, creating a dramatic backdrop.  This fabulous painting is by the listed French artist Gustave Lino (1893-1961).

Gustave Lino was born in Mulhouse, France, and, in 1912, moved to the South of France before exploring Algeria. During the First World War he was interned, as his birthplace had been part of the German Empire, in a convent in Corsica where devoted his time to studying painting with a German painter, a fellow detainee. Upon his return to Algeria, he joined the studio of French artist Georges-Antoine Rochegrosse, who encouraged him to exhibit his works.  In 1927 he travelled to Spain and Tunisia to paint, which led to him greatly enhancing his skills in painting seascapes, landscapes and still lifes. His work is linked to the group of "Painters of Poetic Reality" and, following his numerous exhibitions, the city of Paris bought one of his paintings which was exhibited at the Palais du Luxembourg.
