Please feel free to make an offer.

I originally purchased this is a Rare Lewis Leather Gun or Magazine Pannier.

But I have now been told that it's actually for a Bren gun magazines & Loader, but again, please do your own research.

Its stamped with a "Broad Arrow" &;

"BHG 1942  R".

I believe the BHG is likely to stand for the maker. Barrow, Hepburn & Gale. Maybe the R stands for right if the horse was carrying two panniers.

There's a similar example in the IWM Museums Collection in London.

It has numerous straps & rings. I don't know how many there should be but please study the images & do your own research.

It appears to carry ammunition & formed part of the machine gun pack saddlery.

They seem to be an enigmatic item as the internet has passed them by.

In expected used condition for a item of this age & nature. My phone seems to have made the images slightly brighter than the actual case is, as it's slightly duller.

On the whole the leatherwork's in good order. It's made of thick leather with a nice golden patina. It's missing it's internal dividers. There's also some staining to the lid. The fastening clip might be a later addition & has a little surface rust. I don't have a key but it opens & closes. It's a little hard to close with nothing inside as it needs something to support it from behind so you can press the fastening clip.

Approx 26 1/2" by 9 1/2" by 5" deep.

It would make a fabulous addition to a Military collection & even make a fantastic tool box or collection case.

Please study the images as they also form part of the description & please do your own research.
