Offered for sale is a large 16” tall Frozen Charlie China bathing doll made in Germany in the early 3rd quarter of the nineteenth century, circa 1850’s-1860’s; the time of the Civil War in America.

He is the “big brother” to the 10 1/2” Frozen Charlie that I also have up for sale in another listing. I’ve been selling and collecting antique dolls since 1990, and I have not before seen Frozen Charlie porcelain dolls as high quality as the three I have afforded this spring.

The blonde one of the trio has been sold but the smallest and largest are still available.

This 16” boy china is flawless with expert decoration of his facial features as well as his brush-stroked hair at the forehead and around his exposed ears. He is heavy & stands sturdily with or without his wooden walker/doll stand. He has a chubby body with a little hole in the back for water to have been able to drain out after being in the bath. Finger and toenails are deeply modelled; the whole doll exhibits “first-out-of-the-mold” quality, which is extremely important when choosing antique bisque & porcelain dolls.

His vintage 2-piece outfit is made of a deep olive fabric that has a slight sheen; it may be a satin or a blended fabric. It consists of a one-piece jumper and a matching shirt with decorative buttons down the from and a small collar: it is in very good condition with a little wear at the neck of the underneath jumper. Please look at all the photos as they are part of the description, and don’t hesitate to message me with any questions you may have or other photos you’d like.

All items come from a smoke-free and pet-free home. I specialize in antique china head dolls and parian dolls from Germany, but also other early dolls such as English poured wax dolls, papier mache dolls, & also antique clothing & accessories.

Thank you so much for your interest in my listings. It is much appreciated!

Blessings,

Michelle
