The pin backs are a safety pin style.  Sometimes newer brooches have those backs so that's possible. 

It came with a vintage lot.  It appears older.  But I'm not sure on age

I do not deep clean the jewelry,  especially the vintage. I clean with microfiber cloth.   I do not want to damage it.   I do not leave backs on earrings for sanitary reasons unless in super condition.
