Michel Scheuer (*20. May 1927 in Rodange, Luxembourg; † 31. March 2015 in Krefeld[1]) was a German canoeist and canoe trainer. He was the 1956 Olympic champion in the two-person kayak.

Scheuer won the bronze medal in the single kayak over 10,000 m at the 1952 and 1956 Olympic Games. The 1956 Olympic Games ended with him winning the gold medal in the double kayak over 1,000 m with Meinrad Miltenberger. In the same discipline he came second at the 1954 Canoe Racing World Championships with Gustav Schmidt. At the 1958 Canoe Racing World Championships he won the four-man kayak titles over 1,000 and 10,000 m with Gustav Schmidt, Georg Lietz and Theo Kleine. At the German Championships he won two single-person kayak titles in 1952 and 1954.

He was a member of the Bertasee Duisburg canoeing club and led the youth and senior training there after his career ended.[2] He last lived in Krefeld. Scheuer was awarded both the Silver Laurel Leaf and the Golden Badge of Honor from the German Canoe Association (DKV).


Helmut Noller (*16. November 1919 in Mannheim; † 28. March 2009 ibid) was a German canoeist.

Career: The multiple German champion in the K1 and K2 classes took fourth place with Gustav Schmidt over 1000 meters in a two-person kayak at the 1952 Olympic Games in Helsinki. In 1954 he won the bronze medal with Günter Krämer at the Canoe World Championships in Mâcon, France. In 1955 he won the Western European champions in K4 with Günter Krämer, Gustav Schmidt and Michael Scheurer.

Helmut Noller died at the age of 89 in a Mannheim hospital.

Franz Johannsen (*4. May 1921; † 2006) was a German canoeist. He competed in the Olympics in 1952 and 1956, finishing fifth twice.

Career: In the single canoe, Johannsen was the strongest canoeist in the Federal Republic of Germany in the 1950s with sixteen championship titles in ten years. At the 1952 Olympic Games in Helsinki, Johannsen only competed in the 10,000 meter distance and took seventh place. In 1956 in Melbourne, starting for the all-German team, he took fifth place in both the 1000 meters and 10,000 meters. The Romanian Leon Rotman won on both routes ahead of canoeists from Hungary, the Soviet Union and Czechoslovakia. Johannsen had already won the title of Western European Champion on both routes in 1953 and 1955.

Johannsen won his first German championship title in 1949 with the Hamburg Canoe Club team. Four more team titles were to be added by 1957, with Wilfried Soltau from 1949 to 1954 and Egon Drews in 1954 and 1957 also being the dominant canoeists in the two-man canoe.

For his sporting achievements he was honored on the 9th. Awarded the Silver Laurel Leaf in October 1955.
