Here is a 1946 Federal model 1040T made by Federal Telephone & Radio Corp. from my personal collection. It has been electrically restored with all capacitors and out of tolerance resistors replaced and the tubes tested for quality as well as life. This radio is a mixture of the new miniature 7 pin tubes (at the time of manufacture) as well as the older octal base tubes that have been around since 1935. it won't be until 1947 that the miniature equivalent of the octal tube used in this set will be produced. The radio case is a new old stock replacement that I've had for years not knowing what it went to until I came across this radio. Its original Bakelite case was broken and I was overjoyed when I realized the unknown one I had was it. It plays very well. the back has some damage where the cardboard slots have been broken out. The red wire is for connecting an external antenna for better reception and is an original factory feature. I just replaced the old wire with a new piece of red wire. The radio measures 10" wide x 6" high x 5-1/2" deep.
