Historical context :

The marine component (marinecomponent in Dutch) is the navy of the Belgian armed forces, which have been segmented into four components since January 1, 2002. Since September 28, 2020, its commander has been Flotilla Admiral Jan De Beurme.

Belgium has not, throughout its history, always felt the need – or did not wish to give itself the means – to maintain a navy. Thus it was, during the second half of the 19th century until the First World War and in the interwar period, without a military navy. After taking on significant dimensions in terms of the number of ships during the Cold War, the Belgian naval force – in the strict sense – is now reduced to two frigates, five minehunters, two patrol boats and a commandment. Other buildings, not having a military vocation, are part of the navy, like the second Belgica, an oceanographic vessel.

Description :

Former Kepi / Bachi of the Belgian navy, dated 1950-1961. Composed of a black felt base, the white part is in light waterproof fabric type fabric. A badge of the Belgian army with the colors of the flag, in metal with enamelled colors. There is a hole provided to fix it on the cap at a specific location (see photo). A flat black fabric cord 2 cm wide to pass under the chin and hold the headdress. There is a cord adjustment loop concealed under the internal leather. Two ventilation holes on each lateral side of the cap. On the interior fabric, there are the following markings: Head circumference "56" date "1961". Manufacturer "SEYMOUR" Kortrijk. Very good general condition, superb patina!!!
