Eric Clapton‘s
Crossroads Guitar Festival blew into the Windy City (Chicago) on July 28, 2007,, and the lineup was earthshaking: Clapton, Jeff
Beck, Doyle Bramhall II, Robert Cray, Sheryl Crow, Vince Gill, Buddy
Guy, BB King, Alison Krauss, Sonny Landreth, Albert Lee, Los Lobos, John
Mayer, John McLaughlin, Willie Nelson, Robert Randolph & The Family
Band, Robbie Robertson, Hubert Sumlin, The Derek Trucks Band, Jimmie
Vaughan, Johnny Winter, and Steve Winwood. This was the second event to benefit Clapton's drug rehab center in Antigua, following and wildly exceeding the first in 2004.
The 2010 CLAPTON CD album features an all
star cast of musical collaborations, includingh the legendary JJ Cale,
drummer Jim Keltner, bassist Willie Weeks, and keyboardist Walt
Richmond-and the sessions later added guests including Steve Winwood,
Wynton Marsalis, Sheryl Crow, Allen Toussaint, and Derek Trucks. Clapton
created a collection that touches on everything from century-old
traditional brass bands to little-known Country Blues to brand-new
originals. The result is both relaxed and revelatory, and unlike
anything the guitarist has done in his legendary career.
