A beautiful and very old (late 19th century) Northwest Coast Makah /Nuchanuhtul (Nootka) conical basket rain hat made out of Cedar roots.

This hat has significant dark patina on the surface. The cedar roots are very tightly woven.  I have owned a few such in the past. This specimen is undoubtedly one of the oldest and finest of this style.

It's in very good condition save for some minor wear along the edges.

An extremely beautiful and rare museum quality NWC artifact.

Measurements: Diameter is 12 inches; height is 8 inches.
