Two Ends to the Town, 'John Bude' {pseudonym of Ernest Carpenter Elmore [1901-1957]. Octavo. 208 pp. Black cloth with yellow titles to spine. The boards are very slightly bowed. The jacket is unclipped with a couple of small chips to the top and bottom of the spine, and a little bit of creasing. The bottom half of the spine is more fragile but is held in place thanks to the protective acetate sleeve in which the jacket is housed. Old, dried and browned tape repairs verso. The edges of the text block are a little dusty. Internally good with a few spots of foxing to the margins. The author has written a presentation inscription dated 1955 on the front free endpaper to 'Philip Lindsay' 'friend and neighbour'. Elmore signs as 'John Bude'. The recipient of the book, Lindsay [1906-1958] was an Australian historical novelist, who had emigrated to England in 1929. He lived in Hastings, where the book is set ( called here, 'Langbourne' and Elmore lived in a village nearby. A very nice association copy.  Signed copies of Elmore's works are rare.
