Description:
This is a pair of amazingly well done Kutani-ware figurines. Jo (old mam) and Uba (old woman) are singing and dancing. Uba is beating a drum. They are wearing very gorgeous Noh costumes.

"Jo and Uba" is a symbol or prayer for longevity and long-term good relationship in Japan from ancient times. They look so happy. Thus, it has been used (as a important ornament in a room) in auspicious events such as wedding ceremony.

The characters on the bottom mean Kutani (Photo #12). Both of the figurines are in excellent condition.
