A stunning Gothic iron probably church or abby door lock with key which is fully operational. Likely Italian or German. Lock plate with a movable Madonna figure in a columned niche, the Madonna hiding the keyhole. The Madonna is held in place with a manual slide beneath her which is moved to allow her to be rotated on her hinge to insert the key.

Large knob on interior side which opens the latch. Key with figural and scroll decoration which operates the lock. The lock face is assembled from multiple individually hand-wrought or cast and tooled pieces. We have hesitated to date this as it appears the iron pins which hold the mechanism together may be later than the actual mechanism.

Lock plate height is 11 inches, 7 inches wide, depth 4 inches. Key length 6 1/4 inches. Weight 8 1/2 lbs.

Condition: in excellent condition and operational. The key itself is oxidized and is of a different metal than the lock.
