Selling my lovely
little 1969 MK1 Ford Escort 1600 3 door. Have listed it a couple of times to
put the feelers out there and have dropped the price accordingly.
This is a South
African import, I brought it to the UK in 2016, all duties and customs paid,
fully UK registered and has its V5C I just haven’t attached the plates for it
yet but do have the classic metal black and silver plates. The engine and body had
a full make over in South Africa in 2016 and the car was rust free, benefitting
from living in the dry climate most of its life. Since being in the UK it has
been stored at the garage and in my car barn under cover but due to the change
in climate and being sat around for years it has started to develop some rust
patches and a couple of cracks in the paint work, which is a huge shame as it
was such a good job.
Has brand new deep
dish MK1 style alloy wheels (only ever driven to MOT test centre and back),
brand new leather seats and panels, new upholstery throughout, 6x9 speakers in
the parcel shelf, fuel tank in boot, you also have the Kent 1600 X-flow engine
with drilled out bore holes for a little more power. It was tested and tuned on
a rolling road in November 2020 and is pushing a whopping 90bhp but there is
huge room under the hood for modifications. Since the engine rebuild this car
has not been driven, only to the test centre and around the car park of the
garage where it was worked on.
It’s had a new
battery (this has been disconnected for a year and a half but I charge it
regularly) new engine and oil filter, engine service and oil change, whole new
break lines, new rubber exhaust mounts, gearbox drained and filled, new track
rods, new steering rack gaitors, front wheel bearings, new gearbox oil,
complete carb rebuild, carb linkage, new K&N air filter, mechanical fuel
pump and gasket fitted, new headlights and side lights, I.K engineering
electronic distributor and ignition kit, carb and distributor adjustment on
rolling road, new chrome circular wing mirrors, new seat belts, brake light
switch sorted, new handbrake cable, new rear wheel cylinders, wiper motor
rebuild, stainless steel wiper blades fitted.
The remaining jobs to
get this vehicle prefect aren’t too difficult or costly, the trickiest one
probably being fitting 2 new wiring looms (body and engine) but even this
should be straight forward for an auto electrician. Previous owners made a mess
of the wiring so that would be the first job that needs addressing, after that
the car should be drivable again. The other things that need addressing are:
Replace current gear
box, current one slips out of second. Possibly replace the clutch while the
gearbox is off to save having to do it at a future date. (gear stick surrounds
supplied).
Replace rear axle,
the current one on there is a Koln so I would change it to a genuine MK Ford
Escort axle, which seem readily available.
Repair or replace the
speedo and speedo drive.
Remove all the
stickers.
Fit and test the
front fog lights (come with car).
Source and fit the
chrome bumpers if required. Personally I would have got this done if I were
keeping the vehicle.
Fit new locks, radio and
heaters.
Front window/weather
seals.
That’s about it. This
is a lovely motor and you don’t see many of the 3 doors on the road anymore so
would be great if it became a Mexico or RS replica. If you have any questions
please feel free to contact me. Viewings available on request.
